Hushpuppi: See why the American court postponed Hushpuppi’s trial

The American court has postponed the trial of Ramoni Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, to July 11.

A spokesman for the court, Thom Mrozek, told BBC Pidgin that the court had postponed the hearing because it was requested by Hushpuppi’s chief of staff, Loius Shapiro.

Hushpuppi was captured by Dubai police in 2020.

He has since been jailed in the United States on charges of online fraud, worth $ 24 million.

The trial is set to begin on February 14.

Mrozek’s court record sent to the BBC shows that District Judge Otis D. Wright signed off on the postponement.

Mr Mrozek said that on July 11, 2022, the trial will resume at 11 a.m. Hushpuppi.

Although he did not say how the case would be handled, Mrozek said Hushpuppi would not be deported from the United States if he was released.

Before it was published, Ramoni Abass Hushpuppi was a well-known financier and entertainer on Instagram.

It usually includes money, clothing, vehicles and other assets.

He was arrested in Dubai in June 2020, after being accused of plotting to steal millions of dollars through an online fraud.

An American law firm, an international bank, and a football team in the Premier League are trying to rob him.

Criminal experts note that Hushpuppi could spend up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.

Hushpuppi is not the only Nigerian to be accused of online fraud in America.

A Nigerian national, Obinwanne Okeke, popularly known as Invictus Obi, is currently in prison.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Virginia district court judge Raj Parekh.

He is accused of embezzling as much as 11 million dollars.
