Nigeria’s Super Eagles battle Angola’s Palancas Negras in a historic quarter-final clash at the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire by 6 pm Nigerian time on Friday, February 2.



Super Eagles reach the last eight stage by defeating the Indomitable Lion of Cameroon in their round of 16 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Saturday, January 27.

Senator Kawu Sumaila, the chairman of the senate committee on sport, disclosed while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, February 1.

Nigeria have conceded only 1 goal, while Angola have scored the most goals, boasting nine goals so far.


According to Sports Brief, Angola’s head coach, Pedro Goncalves, believes he has the formula for breaking down Nigeria’s defence.

Nigeria has been labelled as the new ‘favourites’ to win the 2023 AFCON. Opta supercomputer tipped the Super Eagles of Nigeria to advance to the semi-finals with a win over Angola.



According to the supercomputer, Nigeria is predicted to defeat Angola within 90 minutes with a 55.5% chance. While Angola is predicted to win with a 22.6% chance.


The former manager of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, also tipped Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa, and Guinea as teams that would make it to the semi-final of the ongoing 2023 AFCON.


Recall that Rohr led Nigeria to win the bronze medal at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. The former Super Eagles manager advised the Nigerian team:

“To beat Angola, they have to put up very high spirit and solidarity because it won’t be easy, but in the end, the Super Eagles should go through.”

The kick-off for Nigeria vs Angola match is scheduled for 6pm. The venue for the opening fixture of the AFCON last eight is the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
